Which route do you take?
By default: Lyon → A43 → Fréjus Tunnel → Italian A32 → Simplon Pass → Sierre (~2h50). In summer, a scenic route via the Mont-Cenis pass or Chamonix is possible on request.
What documents do I need to cross the border?
A valid ID card or passport is mandatory. Switzerland is in Schengen. No stamp, but a document is required in case of a random check.
Can we stop in Chambéry or Albertville?
Yes. A 15-minute stop in Chambéry is included at no extra charge. A lunch stop in Moûtiers or Albertville: CHF 30-50 depending on duration.
Lyon or Geneva: which is better for Sierre?
Geneva is faster (1h50 vs 2h40) and fully on motorway. Lyon is worthwhile if your flight is cheaper or if you’re arriving from the south of France. Crans-Montana and Val d’Anniviers add roughly 20-30 extra minutes either way.
